Let's visit: Strašnice residence

The owners of a family home invested in polished plasters three years ago and would like to share their experience with you. With two children and a furry friend, their home sees a lot of activity. The polished plasters were applied to the floors throughout the entire house (including the basement and sauna), as well as on the walls in the kitchen and bathroom.

What led you to your decision to install Betonepox® polished plaster on your floors?

My wife and I were in search of a flooring option that emulated the look of concrete without visible joints. Additionally, we desired a surface that efficiently conducted heat due to the electric underfloor heating system installed throughout our home. Opting against traditional tiles, we found our solution in polished plaster. After a quick search on Google and a visit to the showroom, the decision was clear.

What type of flooring did you have in your house originally?

It was a complete renovation, requiring us to replace floating floors, tiles, and boldly colored carpets throughout the house.

Were you satisfied with the polished plaster installation process and the communication with the Němec company?

We were very satisfied. I scheduled a meeting over the phone, where a friendly representative guided us through the showroom, and I later discussed all technical details with her colleague. The technician arrived to take measurements the same week, and I received the quote within 2 days. After placing the order, we waited for about 5 weeks for the actual installation.

You've had the polished plasters on your floors for three years now. How pleased are you with the resilience of Betonepox® against damage, stains, or wear and tear after three years of use?

We have two young children, so our floors have endured a lot right from the start – from toy trucks zooming back and forth to the constant shuffling of tables and chairs. Occasionally some smudges of cream on the walls, crayons, watercolors or spilled wine.

Here, I must say, Betonepox® has truly impressed us. It cleans up beautifully, with the only hiccup being some stubborn marks from the children's markers from IKEA. Fortunately, a technician from the Němec company was able to resolve that issue promptly. Aside from that, Betonepox® has proven easy to maintain.

In terms of warmth, Betonepox® does an excellent job of conducting heat. Within just 10 minutes of turning on the heating, you can feel the difference. I initially worried about potential cracking after the first heating season, but I'm happy to report that hasn't been an issue. Subsequent seasons have been just as trouble-free.

How do epoxy polished plasters hold up to children and their play? Are they resistant to toy impacts and other collisions?

The primary concern is the possibility of children falling, which has happened a few times in our household. The polished plaster is notably resilient, and the instances of our children bumping their heads on the floor has caused us to jump out of our seats. However, it's important to note that this is not a flaw of the polished plaster itself. In terms of durability, toy falls, pots, plates, or cutlery hitting the polished plaster don't cause any damage.

As previously mentioned, in addition to applying polished plasters to your floors, what other selections did you make from our range of offerings?

We made a few more selections. Apart from the entire flooring, we also decided on Betonepox® for the shower corner and the entire bathroom. For the facade, we went with Imitation of concrete Junior, while Perlata polished plaster decorates a few walls in the children's room. And behind the television, we have a moss wall – it's a real standout feature. All our guests ask if it's real moss.

Is there something you would like to convey to other owners of family homes considering polished plasters for their household?

We can only recommend it. The polished plaster doesn't age, it looks good, timeless, and pairs beautifully with wood. From a practical standpoint, it's easy to clean, and overall, dirt is hardly noticeable on it. It also conducts heat well.

What is your overall impression of this investment in polished plasters? Was it valuable for you and did it meet your expectations?

We wouldn't change it. It's not a cheap investment, nor was it intended to be. We wanted quality for a good price, and that was fulfilled. If we were to renovate again, we would definitely choose polished plasters and the Němec company again.
