Polished Plasters on the Floor: Beauty, Durability, and Easy Maintenance

Polished plasters are commonly used on interior walls, but only few people realize that they can also be used on the floor. However, they are highly practical in this application as well. They are durable and easy to maintain. Which one should you choose? Radovan Najman, the Executive Officer of Němec s.r.o., reveals the answer.
  • Polished Plasters on the Floor: Beauty, Durability, and Easy Maintenance

For us, the ideal choice is Betonepox® epoxy based polished plaster.

And why is that?

It's simple. We have been applying this polished plaster since around 2009, and during this time, we have tried various alternatives, including cement floors and poured epoxy floors. None of these alternatives, however, have exhibited the same durability and functionality as Betonepox® polished plaster. If you look around our showroom, you'll see that it has been here for ten years and that it still looks fantastic.

Do I have to worry that the polished plaster would crack?

Betonepox® polished plaster itself never cracks. However, since it is less than 2 mm thick, it reflects the condition of the underlying surface. If the underlying concrete is not properly prepared or if the expansion joints are not done correctly, there is a risk of the underlying surface cracking, which could affect the plaster as well. However, all of these issues can be addressed through consultations before the actual installation. We are capable of providing any necessary repairs to ensure a smooth process.

Next question naturally arises: Can I extend the plaster from the living area into the hallway or even the staircase?

Absolutely. In fact, the continuity throughout the interior looks really beautiful, and we highly recommend it. We are not limited by any specific area. Our current record is 700 m², where we were able to apply the polished plaster seamlessly. Subsequently, we address any necessary expansion joints, which we fill and color-match to the polished plaster. This creates a beautiful, clean detail that truly ties the entire interior together within the designated area.

When we talk about polished plaster, I typically envision a gray color.

There's no need to limit yourself to gray. The color palette is almost limitless, allowing everyone to find their desired shade. If you wish, you can even have metallic or pearlescent tones.

I understand that Betonepox® is truly resilient and strong. So, it is not affected by water?

No, it is not affected by water, which is one of its main advantages. When something spills on the floor, you don't want to worry about quickly wiping it up because the floor is absorbent. Therefore, you can use Betonepox® plaster even in bathrooms.

But let's save that topic for another article.
